This course is designed for students whose basic computational skills need additional reinforcement.  The students are taught to organize their thoughts so that they can be expressed concisely in the language of algebra.  Such topics as variables, integers, equations, word problems. graphing and factoring are introduced.  Effort is made to use algebra in a practical way and the principles of arithmetic are constatly reviewed.

There are two main objectives of this course:
                               (1) to cover the basic concepts and skills of both arithmetic and introductory algebra.
                               (2) to give students the understanding to work with these skills in problem solving.
